S. Joe McCord Library Hero Award


The McCord Library Hero Award seeks to recognize efforts of an individual or a group related either to a specific legislative effort or piece of proposed library-related legislation during a specific Texas State Legislative Session or to recognize ongoing, sustained efforts that when taken in their entirety presents high levels of dedication to the legislative programs of the Texas Library Association. The Executive Board of the TLPAC will award the McCord Library Hero Award as Texas Library Heroes arise, and representatives of the TLPAC Executive Board will present the McCord Library Hero Award(s) at TLA Annual Assembly.

All nominations for the McCord Library Hero Award are to be submitted to the Executive Board of the TLPAC (form). Nominations are due July 1. Any member of the TL-PAC may submit nominations (making an annual contribution confers membership to the TL-PAC).

Susan Mann recieved the McCord Library Hero award in 2014 in recognition of her record as a long-time library advocate and her service to the Texas Library Association and its legislative efforts.

Representave Jim Pitts, Rhoda Goldberg, and Cyd Sheffy received the inaugral McCord Library Hero awards in 2013. Representative Pitts was honored for his support for libraries. Rhoda and Cyd were honored for their years of library advocacy.
